The Adventures of Don Quixote

Video | Digital stage design 1999

Two projection screens enclose two vertical sides of a cube-shaped stage; the choreographer and dancer Roberto Castello performs within this stage.

The electronic scenography was produced using video, morphing technology and other digital processing technologies. For example, the video material produced for the castle/inn scene described in Cervante’s book is here depicted as a trans- formation from a castle to a petrol station—today’s version of a roadside inn. The introductory scene where the dancer’s head and body morph represents Don Quixote’s quixotic sense of reality.

The Adventures of Don Quixote toured extensively throughout Italy from 1999 to 2001. Notably, it won an award in Italy in 2000 for best choreography in dance.
